My (not so) First Blog Post

To help you get to know me better, I thought it’d be nice to write out this blog post and tell you my story of getting here.

Well, here we go—attempt #4 at finding my niche and making this blog a reality.

I first jumped into the blogging world after stumbling across a $27 course on “how to start a blog.” The material was great, and I was so excited for what the future held. One of the modules covered finding your perfect niche, which, to be honest, had been a major roadblock for me. I have so many hobbies and interests, and narrowing it down to just one felt impossible. But since I was already knee-deep in learning about blogging, I decided to focus on what I knew at the time: helping people start their own blogs.

I got serious about it, creating a mini-course on starting and monetizing a blog. I felt confident I could teach it better and add more value than the course I took. Things started off well—I even began building a small business around it—but as I kept going, I realized the blogging niche was incredibly saturated. That actually wasn’t too bad - it did mean more expensive ads, and having to find a way to stand out, but I did get business the fastest than with any other of my niches... However, I wasn’t very knowledgable about it yet since it was my first time blogging, so it just required a lot more time, research, and constantly digging myself out of imposter syndrome mode.

That’s when I shifted to Art & Travel, two of my favorite things. I planned to sell art originals and prints while offering travel itineraries and planning services. To tie it all together, I decided to focus on travel-inspired art. It was a fun concept, but it felt restrictive. Suddenly, painting—something I loved—became a chore. I didn’t like being limited to what I could paint, when I had so many ideas of art decor that was meaningful and decor-friendly. I hit a wall and started wondering if building my own business was even the right path for me.

After that, I said screw it and branched into many different niches. That was actually good for me, however I got super exhausted after writing and putting together just one of the blog posts - it was a DIY Valentines Decor Idea post. I had 4 different projects that took quite a bit of time and then I had to write about it.

That was probably my biggest mistake was turning away from that. Instead of just eliminating the DIY niche, I got rid of the entire idea completely and was going to just focus on selling my art.

When I thought about just doing art, two main issues popped up: 1. Making money wouldn't happen overnight since I needed to paint more, build a reputation, and develop my own unique style. 2. I still had this nagging feeling that I wasn't fully expressing everything I wanted to share or helping people in all the ways I could.

To say the least, starting a business is not for the faint of heart, and blogging is no exception. I had to work on my mindset and dig deep once again to figure out how to include more of my interests without overwhelming myself or my readers.

But I finally decided that I was going to just do what makes me happy. I’m going to really lean into my expertise and actually enjoy all the effort I'm pouring into something I care so deeply about. This direction sure is busy, but it’s something that finally feels right. I’m actually looking forward to “working” everyday and I’m no longer being held back from all the things I want to give and share.

I don’t know how to put this nicely, but screw all the “niche-down” advice, and all the business rules. I’m going to find a way to do things my way and be successful with it.

If you’re in the same boat, wanting to start your own blog or business, but not sure how to niche-down, then you’re in the right place. I’ll be sharing all the things I learn as I build out my business to hopefully save you some hassle and help make it possible for you to live out your business dreams too!

So, what are my niches? Well, for now it’s

  • Recipes - quick and easy for busy people, and helpful tips to save time and money with your meals

  • Microbakery - I love baking. So I sell my baked goods to locals - and do small events too.

  • Home Decor - I sell my original paintings, art prints, wreaths, and other handmade home decor

  • Modest Fashion - I find and share cute, comfy, modest clothing from Amazon

  • Children’s Books/Coloring Pages - probably seems random, but I love illustrating on procreate on my iPad. So I’m making children’s books and coloring pages and selling it from Amazon KDP

  • Business - I’m super passionate about entrepreneurship. I have been working on my business for a while now and I love to help others make it possible for themselves!

  • Greeting Cards - again, pretty random. But I also love designing these off my iPad, and I know receiving a card from someone you love can go a long way.

  • Spiritual - I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I enjoy sharing my experiences being a member of the church, and I love Jesus a lot:) I don’t make money from this niche, it’s simply just a hobby to share!

More is likely to come, as there’s many other things I’m passionate about.

For the first time in a long time, I feel excited and energized about this direction. Thank you for following along and for all your support—it truly means the world to me.
