God Will Help You Find Your Purpose
God is guiding us always—it just sometimes takes us a while to see it. I’ve prayed every day for His help in my business, and somehow He’s always kept me going.
Today’s post is going to be a lot like a journal entry—personal, vulnerable, and something I think is very important. If you’ve ever felt lost about what you’re supposed to be doing in life, wondered if God cares about your dreams, or have been seeking direction, I think this story will help.
I’ve shared bits of this before, but this time I want to share it with a clearer message: We all have a purpose here on earth, and God is here to help us find it.
A Little Background…
A few years ago, while finishing my college degree, I fell in love with the idea of working for myself. My Pinterest feed was full of pins about blogging, Etsy shops, and making money online. I was hooked.
I started a blog, tried selling printables, and began dreaming about a career that would let me use my talents, do something I loved, and earn a significant income. But along with that excitement came guilt and questions:
What does God think about this?
Is this path selfish?
Does He even care about something like this?
At the time, my business idea had nothing to do with sharing my faith. I wasn’t hiding it, but I didn’t see how my business could possibly matter to God.
An Answer to Prayer
For months, I took those questions to the temple. One day, after an endowment session, I sat quietly in the celestial room and prayed in my heart: What do You think of me pursuing this?
In the stillness, I felt His answer: “You will be successful in whatever you choose to do, Rachel.”
It was a thought I never would have come up with on my own—and the peace that came with it told me it was from Him.
Finding My Why
That reassurance carried me for a while. But as my business evolved, I still hit roadblocks. I kept changing niches. I started a multi-passion blog that felt exciting but also overwhelming.
One Sunday, while recovering from a bad cold at home, I turned on BYUtv and found a docuseries called Artful—artists sharing how they connect with God, the Ultimate Creator, through their work.
It was exactly what I needed. In one episode, artist Nick Stephens explained:
“Once you put [your art] out there in the public, it’s a different thing. It’s not really yours anymore. It becomes everybody else’s.”
That resonated deeply with me. When you create art and then release it into the world, it takes on a life of its own. It touches people in ways you can’t control—but that’s where much of its beauty lies.
Creating art this way has become one of the most meaningful ways I draw closer to our Creator. In a sense, it’s like creating life with your devoted spouse—something miraculous, unique, and full of potential you can’t fully predict.
That perspective shifted everything. I realized my art could have a purpose beyond decoration—it could carry God’s messages, comfort, and presence into homes and hearts I’ll never see in person.
HIs Guidance is With Us Always
God is guiding us always—it just sometimes takes us a while to see it. I’ve prayed every day for His help in my business, and somehow He’s always kept me going.
I don’t know why I didn’t have this experience sooner. Maybe I wouldn’t have reacted the same way if I’d heard it earlier. But I do know this: it’s another testament that He truly cares about our passions, and that He is actively guiding us.
If there’s one thing I want you to take away from my story, it’s this: we all have a purpose in our lives, and God is always there to help you find it. He’s the one that gave you that purpose. All our talents, values, and things that make us who we are are given to us by Him.
